About

Seongyong Lee founded his Seoul-based studio, LSD, after training in industrial and furniture design at Seoul National University and the Royal College of Art. His career has spanned roles at LG Electronics and leading London studios including Pearson Lloyd, Map Project Office, and Pentagram, before returning to Korea in 2021.

Vision

For over a decade, Lee’s work has explored the intersection of industrial design and craftsmanship, creating objects that are seamless, balanced, and quietly expressive. This approach has earned international recognition, from a Designs of the Year nomination at the Design Museum London to multiple IDEA and iF Awards, as well as three consecutive Next Generation Design Leader honours from the Korea Institute of Design Promotion.

His designs are held in the permanent collections of The Design Museum in London, the Crafts Council UK, and Manchester Metropolitan University, reflecting a body of work that bridges precision manufacturing with a deep material sensitivity.

Process

Each project begins with careful observation — studying how people interact with objects in everyday life. Prototypes are built early, allowing  to refine the tactile qualities and test balance, weight, and durability. Materials are chosen not only for their function but for the subtle ways they age and respond to touch. The result is a body of work that feels inevitable — as though it has always existed.
